Great Pyrenees: The Natural Protectors
At Poe Family Farm, our Great Pyrenees are one of the most vital aspects to raising pastured chickens successfully. Great Pyrenees are by nature territorial guard dogs who do an excellent job protecting their flocks and family. They are confident, gentle and affectionate. They are also strong willed, independent and loyal animals. Our Pyrenees work together protecting our birds from the various natural predators that may come around our farm. They are also loving pets for our family.
All of our puppies are born in a our birthing barn that we created just for this special time. The pups stay in the barn with Mom until they are 5 weeks of age. At that time, they are then moved out to pasture where they begin "working" with their parents. They are all exposed to chickens, rabbits and any other animals that we may have on our farm. The pups are ready to go to their forever homes when they are 8 weeks old. Before leaving our farm, each puppy will be vet checked,
de-wormed and given their first round of puppy vaccinations. They will go home with a puppy pack, which includes their collar, small bag of puppy food and health records.
The Adoption Process
We are a small breeder farm who only has a few litters each year. We love all of our puppies very much and must be sure that they are all going to the homes/farms that are the best fit for them. Therefore, we came up with an adoption process that we feel is fair and simple.
Step One: Puppies Are Born! We will post pictures of all puppies when they are 2 weeks of age. At that point, we will begin speaking with families by phone. This is a great time for us to get to know each other, talk more about the Pyrenees breed and to discuss your puppy wants and or needs. We cannot make these decisions based on email conversations or text messages alone.
Step Two: Pick Your Puppy! If both parties feel that they are ready to proceed with the adoption, the new family may then reserve their puppy. This is done by viewing the pictures we have posted and choosing the one they like best. You will then be asked to pay a NON-REFUNDABLE (after 3 days) deposit to reserve your puppy. We will not "hold" a puppy for you without the deposit. If you would rather pick the puppy in person, we welcome you to the farm to do so. Appointments may be made to meet them when they are 3 weeks of age. No appointments will be made before that age. Please know that our litters typically sell fast, so if you wait until this 3 week period, we cannot guarantee that they will not all be spoken for.
Step Three: Keep In Touch! You will receive a confirmation email from us within 24 hours of placing your puppy deposit. At that point, we will happily send new families a weekly update on their puppy's growth and development as well as puppy pictures. If by the time they are 3 weeks old and you haven't met your puppy, we encourage you to make an appointment to come out and visit, if you can.
Step Four: Let's Go Home! All puppies will be ready to go to their forever homes when they are 8 weeks of age. We feel like this is the optimal time for them to began being socialized by their new family. We do not hold puppies for longer than the 7 week mark. Please make arrangements to pick them up during the scheduled pick up times.
Step Five: We Are Here! If you have any questions down the road about your new pup, please ask! We welcome any questions from new families at any time. We also LOVE to receive picture updates from families showing us how puppy is doing throughout the years!

*We do have the right to refuse a sale if we don't feel that our of our pups would be a good fit for your home or farm.
