Edible flowers and goat cheese together - what's not to love?  This simple recipe is easy to prepare and makes such a lovely presentation. Impress your guests by bringing it to the next party or adding it to your charcuterie boards!

The Benefits of Goat Cheese

With all its earthy flavor, goat cheese can be used in a variety of sweet and savory dishes. Not only is it super tasty, but it is also high in protein and a great source of calcium. Goat cheese contains healthy fats and probiotics, which have to said to improve gut health and immunity. Goat cheese also has lower levels of lactose than cow's milk, which some say is easier to digest for people who are lactose intolerant.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

It's simple: All you really have to do with this recipe is mix the ingredients, shape, chill in the fridge and then enjoy!

It's beautiful: What a way to impress your guests! With all the bold and beautiful colors of the fresh petals, it definitely will stand out on a plate.

It's delicious: With the tangy, earthy flavor of the goat cheese, and the soft floral hints from the flowers, this dish provides all the great tastes. Served with your favorite crackers or a freshly baked baguette really complements the flavor and texture. For even more flavor, I like to drizzle honey over the top. Delicious!

It makes for an easy clean-up: Since this simple recipe only requires a few supplies to make, clean-up is a breeze. No sink full of dirty dishes here.

It can be enjoyed in so many ways: This dish is so simple and versatile. You can easily switch out whatever edible flowers you wish, depending on what is in season. Don't have any edible flowers on hand, no problem! I often make this recipe with fresh & dried herbs instead. Either way, the presentation is beautiful and the taste is incredible!

What Flowers Should I Use?

As always, when using flowers in any recipe, make sure to double-check that the flower you are consuming is, in fact, edible and that you are eating the edible part of the plant. Some parts can be eaten, some parts should not be. Also, many flowers and herbs can look similar to ones that are toxic. A few of the well-known varieties that are generally safe to consume are:
  1. Pansies
  2. Nasturtium
  3. Marigolds
  4. Violets
  5. Calendula
  6. Bachelors Buttons
  7. Roses
  8. Sunflowers
  9. Zinnias
  10. Lilac

What Are The Benefits of Edible Flowers?

Many edible flowers contain a variety of minerals and health-promoting components. Some even contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory elements.

Where Can I Get Fresh Edible Flowers & Herbs?

Most edible flowers and herbs are generally not difficult to grow. If you have a vegetable garden, you can easily tuck in a few plants to try out. Some can easily be grown in a pot that can be brought in during the cold season. You can also purchase fresh edibles at your local farmer's market, depending on the season. Some grocery stores may carry them year-round in the produce section.

Ingredients:

  • 1 log of fresh goat cheese  (I used 4 oz)
  • 1 cup of fresh flower petals, chopped
  • Crackers or baguette, for serving
  • Honey for drizzling (optional)

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Cutting board & sharp knife
  • Mixing bowl
  • Storage container with lid

How To Make:

  1. Stir the goat cheese in a bowl until it becomes smooth. Add chopped flowers and mix until incorporated.
  2. Shape the goat cheese & flower mixture into a log or round ball. Press extra flowers on top of the log.
  3. Place the goat cheese, covered, in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. I do not recommend using plastic wrap for this because the cheese and flowers will easily stick to it.
  4. Drizzle with honey if desired.
  5. Serve with crackers of your choice or sliced baguette.

How To Store:

This recipe is best served fresh. While the goat cheese will last several days covered in the refrigerator, the flowers will not last as long.
